The first was a Helping Hands project for his gifted program. His assignment was to choose a project that helped someone or something, complete the project over a month's time, and report about it. He chose to do a beach clean-up. He picked up the trash and we took pictures. I also provided the gloves and trash bags, shopped for the poster foam boards, developed the pictures, saved the "clean" trash from our house, and printed out the words. Blake chose the title, font, text colors, pictures and trash to use, and where everything should be placed. (Note: his teacher explicitly said that this should be a "parent-involvement" project, so there!) Here's how it turned out:
The second was a book report and diorama for his regular class. His assignment was to read a book about an animal, complete the book report form, and create a diorama depicting the animal he chose. Blake chose to read about chameleons. Naturally, there are absolutely NO chameleon figures to be found in any of the stores. Our idea was to print chameleon pictures, cut them out, and glue them into the diorama. Blake wanted it to look like a tree inside the diorama, so I bought some fake plants and hot-glued them wherever Blake wanted them to go. Truthfully, Blake chose the locations for everything and I just manned the 260-degree hot glue gun. (Note: this project was to also have parent involvement, so quit mumbling about "just whose project was it anyway"!) No matter what grade Blake gets, this diorama is going on display in his room because I think it looks fantastic!
